In May my brother came down from Sydney for a visit. We went camping but he had a couple of days in Melbourne beforehand to check out the sights. I jumped a V-line down to Melbourne and spent one of the days wandering around with him, checking out the sites, and taking some photos of course. One of the first places to head to is Hosier Lane.

The challenge with taking photos of sites that get thousands of people photographing them is to photograph what you have a good reaction to rather than what you have seen in other photographs. Try to photograph just the things that you see and find interesting. So here are some parts of the area that I think are interesting.

Then a little bit more of a wander around the area I found this great doorway at the forum.

FP4 plus is really quite a nice film. It has the important attribute of good pricing but it also gives really deep blacks and just a little bit of grain. It produces results that I like without much effort in photoshop. One day I will do some real darkroom prints again but for the moment I'm stuck with just scanning and this is pretty good to scan.

Across the road is the Ian Potter NGV so we had a wander around there.

Then it was late lunch and I found this cool scene off Little Bourke Street (is there something of a bin subtheme in this post?). I had finished the first roll and gone to some HP5 plus by this stage. HP5 seems to be a bit lower contrast so I have given the blacks a bit of a push on the curve in photoshop, this is a season to taste thing of course. Add as much crunch as you like.

We also visited the state library and a bit more wandering and traming about (free tram zone rocks!) but that will almost do for this post. We finished off with a coffee at Pellegrini's and so should you if you come to Melbourne.
