Back with the next installment of photos from my Sydney trip in Feb. See part one here and part two here or use the previous post button at the bottom of this page. These photos are from a night time walk around the city streets, just a foot cruise, looking for things that I find interesting.

One thing that was interesting to see was the rash of food delivery bikes and scooters which have infested the streets. Parked up late at night, outside core meal times, the bikes make an interesting composition but I am not really a fan of the dangerous positions that I see a lot of delivery riders putting themselves in. Remember, cars and trucks don't ask questions and they are always going to win an argument with a bike.

This is a roll of Portra 160 and I was really pleased with the way that film handled the long exposure and the mixed colours of the light sources. The grain is really nice and fine too which you would expect given how good the grain is on the 400 version.

I am a real fan of black and white film as you might be able to tell from previous posts on this blog but here are a couple of shots which illustrate why it is good to shoot some colour every now and then too.

These two shots look really good on a big monitor and I really need to get some prints made of these ones. In the first shot, I really like the way that the street and building lighting illuminates the tree foliage to a bright green and casts a shadow of the tree on the road. The second shot is just awesome thanks to the addition of a garbage truck crossing through the frame. I had just set up my tripod and started the exposure when it came along. I took another shot once it had gone through but that one looks just boring in comparison. Of course a joy of film is that you have no idea how any of this is going to turn out until you develop the roll. Sometimes you get your rolls back and smile. Other times not so much, but as Tom Petty said the waiting is the hardest part.

To finish off for this post here are a couple of shots of the Edinburgh Castle Hotel. Each one is from a different angle and it illustrates the different colours from different artificial light sources. You have to love mixed lighting!

That is about it for this post. I'll be back with more thoughts and photos soon in part four (the trip back to Melbourne).
